Diese Inschrift ist in mehrfacher Hinsicht einzigartig; sie wurde 1948 entdeckt "at the mound of the Dakkhiṇa-thūpa, at Anurādhapura, which was for several generations known to the people of the place as E±āla-sohona, the Tomb of E±āla."

Die Inschrift befindet sich auf 17 Granitstufen am Fuße des Stūpa.
